No matter where you lie on the eco-friendly spectrum, there are little to big things you can do to make your event more sustainable. This doesn’t mean you have to go digging through your recyclables, but switching up a few things earlier in the planning process can make a lasting statement.
Invitations
Get rid of the paper all together. The digital world is becoming even more stunning. There are plenty of sites with creative and customizable invitations to ensure that your event is represented well in ‘print.’ This is also a great option if you’re looking to save time on tracking your RSVPs.
Biodegradable, Recyclable & Reusable Décor
Instead of heading straight for the plastic plates, opt for options that are recyclable or biodegradable. There are also many newer options like bamboo plates. Along with this, you can also set up recycle stations with clear indications of what goes where. Or, if you want to be really eco-friendly, opt to actual glass or tableware which can all be washed and reused rather than thrown away.
Lighting
When you can, capitalize on events that you can host during the day to take advantage of the natural light. Using candles to create some ambiance? Switch out the wax candles for soy-based candles. And lastly, LEDs are all the rage in the energy world. With all the LED options available it’s really easy to incorporate them into your event over the traditional lightbulbs.
Transportation
Want to cut back on those carbon emissions? Find a venue or location close to public transportation. Or if you have the option to coordinate mass transportation for guests from one place to the next, you’ll help save on all the individual transports going back and forth.
Remember that a little bit can always go a long way.
