Eggstra Sustainable

April 13, 2017

Easter is just around the corner. This festive day is a time for families to come together and enjoy each other’s company and really get into the spring season. It’s also a time for all those DIY-ers and hand-crafters to really do what they love.

Here’s a few things you can do this Easter to make your Easter Celebration eggstra sustainable:

Eggs

Locally source your eggs. If you’ll be using real eggs, consider purchasing them from your local farmer and buy eggs from pasture-raised chickens. Pasture raised-eggs are healthier for you, too!

Want an option that’s a little more long-lasting? There are a number of alternatives to plastic Easter Eggs including wooden ones, ceramic and even compostable eggs.

You can also make “blown eggs” which uses natural eggs, but with the yolk and whites removed.

But, if you must use plastic eggs, be sure to reuse them!

Egg Dyes

Dying the eggs? There are number of natural and homemade egg dyes. Here’s how to make your color pallet.

Zero Food Waste

Too many hardboiled eggs left over? Don’t waste it! Here are some receipts for those leftovers.

Minimize Your Packaging

Easter baskets are super popular. Why wouldn’t they be? They are always filled with the best goodies. First, consider an alternative to the traditional Easter basket. How about an Easter plant or plant seeds for the garden?

If you are purchasing an Easter basket or making one yourself, keep your packing materials to a minimum. (They generally just end up in the trash anyways.) Switch the plastic grass, which cannot be recycled, for shredded paper or tissue paper.
